I blame social media and reality tv for this People think the presidency is a god damn comedy show. "Hey let's elect a know-nothing rich guy! He'll be fun to laugh at!"
I wash my hands of this.
Right now, we are alive And in this moment, I swear We are infinite. -

Libtard is a very trashy and condescending word used by many uneducated conservatives.
I had sense and voted for Johnson. Trump is supported mostly by bitter, white, working class men who thinks he actually has their best interests at heart, when in fact, he was born into royalty. The same people that had those "Don't re-nig in 2012" bumper stickers. Wealth creates wealth for most. -

A nation that claims "one man, one vote" and has the nut voted that doesn't have the majority of votes, is pretty dumb.
But there is hope; a guy on Dutch tv explained why he voted Trump; he didn't trust Hillary and he counted on Trump being kicked out before the end of term.
And otherwise, the next president will be Lisa Simpson! -

The wide-spread lack of understanding of why the United States of America has the Electoral College and that we are a Democratic Republic not a "democracy" is unsettling. This misunderstanding exists on "both sides of the isle" and seems to always come up when one side is enjoying a "simple majority."

You are taking the label too literally, applying the "mob rule" definition to the word, democracy. Even though we're a democratic republic, we are still a democracy.
If a nation has free and fair elections, coupled by competing parties with varied representative interests, it can be classified as a democracy.
democracy. government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them
or by their elected agents under a free electoral system
. a state having such a form of government: The United States and Canada are democracies. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/democracy

I take your point, and wasn't arguing we are not a democracy as such (notice my quotation marks to make the term's use suspect), but rather challenging Little_C's comment:
A nation that claims "one man, one vote" and has the nut voted that doesn't have the majority of votes, is pretty dumb.
Many similar indictments against the US form of government seem to be ill-informed on the actual structure we use. In this case, Little_C functions under the misunderstanding that "majority of votes" should win in any "democracy." I was just trying to clarify a bit. -

No centrd. We are NOT a democracy. We are a Representative Republic. Where were you when you were supposed to be in your History and Civics classes? Or do they even still teach those courses in the wretched liberal school system of today?
