Given how well received "In The Forest Of The Night" was on this board I am sure everyone is thrilled that Frank Cottrell Boyce is back writing a series 10 episode.
I think at the time I was the only one who posted anything positive here when it aired. Any other people on the board now like that one?

Jury's still out though because Peter Harness debuted with Kill the Moon and then returned a year later with Invasion/Inversion which was a fantastic story. I know he didn't write Peter's speech but still it was a great political thriller. They wheel out Gatiss every season anyway despite his mediocre to terrible scripts so even if he writes another stinker it's not exactly anything new.

Mediocre really is the best way to describe his stories. (Although Sleep No More was terrible).
And then you have the reverse with Neil Gaiman - a great story like The Doctor's Wife followed up by the very mediocre Nightmare in Silver.I said I'd feed youI didn't say who to.

I don't know about Invasion/Inversion being a fantastic story. The only good thing i remember about it was the Evil Clara bits and the final speech by the Doctor. The Doctor Disco bits, the subtle as a sledgehammer to the face parallels with the Zygons and ISIS, the incredibly stupid scene with the UNIT soldiers getting duped obviously by Zygons pretending to be their family members (and the stupid fuzzball death/remains), Osgood pointless return and the complete ineptitude/incompetence of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (clearly she only got her UNIT position due to nepotism) made me dislike this a lot. -

Yeah, I found those irritatingly blatant parallels of the Zygons with ISIS a turn-off too; some people praised the relevance of this story's plot to current times, but I found it to be a half-arsed effort by the writers. Regarding Osgood's part in the story, I found it hard to engage with the conflict of her kidnapping because I only perceived her at that point as an object embodying 'fanwankery', not a rounded character that I could feel for.

Forest wasn't bad at all. Sure It's no award winner but its hardly awful just a basic family adventure a basic story nothing hugely amazing or bad to me. The best part was 12 and Clara's moment by the tardis 12s character development
"This is my world to I walk its earth I breathe its air"
The development from kill the moon was a lovely touch and something we've never seen from previous doctors and the powerful music playing made it a lovely scene -

Oh joy, the writer of one of my favorite episodes of all time! /s
I hope he's back with a better realized idea. I like to give writers a few chance before I deem them good or bad, but if I was forced to judge him on that episode alone he'd get pretty low marks. -

Yeah I was not exactly ecstatic when it was announced as I find Forest to be terrible and currently by far the worst Capaldi story. I am curious though to see if maybe he can pen a much stronger episode this time as most writers on the show that started out with a bad episode did at least improve when they returned. It took Steve Thompson a third try but he did get there and while I'm not a fan of The Rebel Flesh 2-parter I find it loads better than Matthew Graham's first episode Fear Her.

You and me both brother.
Fear Her I hate for its flimsy premise ( despite its decent execution. )
The Doppelganger two parter I hate for its admitetly intruiging idea but flimsy execution.
Well hate is a strong off course. But I apart from the average but watchable Curse of the Black Spot Series 6 would have hadbsuch a strong start had the two parter been good. -

The only real problem I had with it was trying to turn mental illness into a fairy tale, but apart from that I did enjoy the Clara/Twelve scenes, especially near the end. The plot, well it is what it is.
Edit: Actually, I almost forgot, but the biggest problem I had with it was the filmmaking: terrible direction (it was like some Tom Hooper wannabe, lots of bad, some unintentionally funny wide lens shots) and mediocre editing (though that's nothing out of the ordinary for Doctor Who, but I specifically remember the wolves and tiger scene being really badly edited because they had to find ways to hide the CGI etc.) I find the episode just hideous to look at. -

So other than its treatment of mental illness, the plot and the film-making you didn't have a problem with this episode?
1 mark deducted for not being Curse of Fenric. Insert 'The' into previous if you are Ant-Mac -

No, I personally don't mind the plot. Like I said, it is what it is. The Twelve/Clara scenes are all good too, especially near the end. I'd just completely forgotten about the filmmaking so in my mind I was thinking I had only one problem with it.

'I don't mind the plot. Like I said it is what it is"
I seriously don't understand this comment. Do you mean it was good, bad, mediocre or irrelevant? Because it didn't have to be what it was.
