Too Many Scenes Filmed in the Dark

I have just watched High-Rise on a Love Film Blu-ray on my HD TV. So much of the film was shot with minimal lighting it was difficult to see what was happening. In the cinema, this type of dimly lit scenes are just about ok, but when the film is transferred to disc, it seems to become much more darker and often you are just watching a black screen.
I loved Sightseers (outdoor with lots of light) and thought it great black humour. But High-Rise I just did not get and certainly not funny.
