How come there isn't a young filmmaker doing a short film titled "28 Minutes Later" that serves as a prequel? The story could be about a young intern at the laboratory where everything started. When everyone around her becomes infected she tries to escape. But then she finds out that her brother was with the group that freed the infected apes. She can't bring herself to kill him when she got the chance to end his misery because he is her only family. So, she locks him in a room promising to return with a cure.

who said the infected die after 1 month? dont recall that ever being mentioned in the movies
interesting article but so far nothing is happening. i get the feeling danny boyle wont be involved at all hes a bog boy now. his big boy boots are too big for this potential trilogy.
To me it feels like there is a missing piece to these films, a third and final piece to end everything.
Not only that, but there is clearly a market for zombie/infected/apocalytic films, TWD is evidence of that based on its popularity -

But we need to get over the days/weeks/months thing. If they're as bad as they can be, pandemics pick up speed, don't slow down, or they do slow down but then come back in a wave (as 28 Weeks Later was).
The greedy producers can't get over the rights problems (ie. $$$) and that's what is holding things up. Too bad. Yet when Romero et al forgot to put on their gem back in 1968, it left it as public domain which meant free enterprise and competition reigned supreme, and look at all the cool (and lots of dumb) z films that resulted when filmmakers were set free.
Alas, on the 28 franchise, they took care of their Ps and Qs, legally, so nobody can steal the idea and run with it.
Still, you'd think somebody would just buy out the hold-out producer so they can move on and make more money because RAGE is the best!
