What's the deal with the floating mountains? Gravity only works on living things on that planet?

Not that much lower. According to external sources, 20% less that of Earth. Mars' for instance is 60% less and the Moon's is 85%.

For some nutty reason I like the Pandora floating mountains. Why? Because they look cool.
