At the end of the first season, she seemed smart, competent, and willing to help her fellow woman(LaGuerta) despite her connection to Captain Matthews.
Second season: I GOT MAN TROUBLES!!! BLARGHITY WHY ARE MY DETECTIVES NOT HELPING ME WITH THAT NO GOOD MAN?!?!?!
What is the deal with that? I would have enjoyed her back and forth with LaGuerta, but it just seemed like they wanted to ditch her for a stupid reason.

Strange storyline, I always thought they'd bring her back to confront Maria but unfortunately that never happened. Felt like the writers changed their minds.

It's called a character arc. A driving element of the plots of many stories is that a character seems initially unable to overcome opposing forces, possibly because they lack skills or knowledge or resources or friends. To overcome such obstacles, the character must change, possibly by learning new skills, to arrive at a higher sense of self-awareness or capability.
