Finally watched the finale, worst series ending ever.

The lumberjack thing doesn't even bother me. It makes clear he is now in the pacific northwest which happens to have a statistically high # of serial killers per capita (active & inactive/caught).

The ending could have been better, but at least they didn't do the obvious thing of Dexter dying or getting caught. That would have been the worse ending ever. I just don't get people saying that Dexter needed to pay for his crimes. It's a fictional show so don't do the obvious thing. I hate in all those gangster movies where everybody always dies at the end, it happens all the time it's a clich!

Well, guess why it happens? because they're gangsters.
Dexter is no exception, he is a serial-killer and at some point he needs to be put down one way or the other.
If they pulled a The Shield finale with everyone around Dexter feeling the effects of his actions only in a well-written way it would be acceptable, but not the way they did.
I feel that since the end of Season 4 the writers have been messing with the fans, I mean, Quinn launching an investigation on Dexter in Season 5 and not backing up LaGuerta in Season 7?
All the stupid subplots they introduced throughout the series involving couples with no chemistry, minor villains with no real purpose, characters who were just there with the purpose of doing nothing.
For example, the female detective takes the sergeant position from Quinn and then she just disappears? Characters who were introduced and then killed or given a horrible excuse just to get off the show? I believe they could've done better than that, the series finale is just a consequence of the mess they created. -

The Sopranos? REALLY? I seriously challenge anyone who had a problem with the series finale of The Sopranos to explain themselves. I mean, I can understand wanting it to end differently, but considering it one of the worst finales ever? Jesus Christ.

When I (re)watched the last episodes, I was surprised to find myself satisfied with the ending. The first time I saw it (binged on Netflix after the series ended), I definitely felt cheated.
I am not sure why my view changed. I suspect that knowing what was coming changed my perspective when rewatching. It somehow seemed more "right".
The only annoying thing is, of course, "Why a lumberjack?" If there had been any hint of that, I thought it might make more sense, but I suppose it would have been too random.
I disagree with people saying it was about hiking with Deb. I also disagree with the association of the Pacific NW with serial killers (despite Ted Bundy and the Green River killer.)
I'd have to brainstorm as to why it would be a suitable place for Dexter. Logging operations take place far from civilized areas? It's a concentrated environment so that everyone knows everyone and a killing (bad guy or Dexter) would be more obvious?
Has he completely lost his urge to kill?
I definitely believe that his isolation is part of punishing himself. Now that he has feelings, he can feel the gut-wrenching pain of losing Harrison and Hannah, and guilt for the good people who died.
