Rest assured that The Avengers does delivers on every level and does so with great emotional moments. Its a movie that lives up to all the hype it has generated and will continue to generate now that people are seeing it and falling in love with it completely.

Critics and audiences agreed that Marvels The Avengers put the pop in popcorn movies last summer. That it turned out as well as it did is amazing, actually, if you consider that its directed by Joss Whedon, a guy who had only worked on one other full-length feature before (Serenity, 2005). But Whedon gets it. Theyre a mash-up; theyre insane, Whedon said. But the beauty of that is as exciting as the problem of that is daunting.

If Avengers is the best of all-time then it stands to reason it's by far the best of the year 2012, right?

There's quite a bit more subtlety than you've seemed willing to give it credit for, so far, including a moment where Banner reflects on what he's lost, a sibling rivalry of sorts between Tony and Steve that mirrors the rivalry between Thor and Loki, and the question of whether Loki's struggle with how he feels about Thor is genuine or just another of his tricks.
Tragically inspirational I can go along with, though. Don't see that in the film, even when you include Coulson's death.
In death, a member of the Avengers Initiative has a name. His name is Phil Coulson. -

I also think all the Black Widow stuff was wonderfully subtle. Her interrogation of Loki and her down time with Clint are masterful. Her scene with Banner is one of the best of the entire year.
Tragic? No but the movie is very inspirational. The characters all inspire from Cap not backing down one bit to Tony making the sacrifice play. -

Like, totes! It's better than Shawshank, better than Seven Samurai, better than chocolates and orgasms and Satie, better than sunny May days and fluffy puppies with one floppy outside-out ear, better than pizza and go-carting and brown paper packages tied up with string! It's like, so much
better
than everything!
Excellent thread, OP. Best I've seen all minute.
