I dont think this movie is anything like Hostel or saw, or any of the "Torture porn" films. It wasnt a horror to me either, it was a thriller(like netflix listed so i was happy)
One day i'll have something cool posted here. -

Aside from the tattoo removal, nobody was tortured. I didn't think it was that violent or gory, and since there was no real nudity, it's hardly porn either.
I thought this movie was extremely tame, and not at all shocking.
Of course saying that, i did watch Martyrs yesterday. -

dean,
I think you are a bit mistaken about what "torture porn" film is. Here's where the term comes from: when someone watches a "porn," they watch it for the sex and NOT the story. This term was adapted, almost in a derogatory sense, to imply that people only watch a "torture porn" for the extreme violence and not the suspense/story, like most slasher/serial killer flicks. A cool kill is a cool kill but, most horror flicks will use a kill to ADD to the suspense and not to take its place. Take the Hostels and Saws, for example. That's what most uninformed people think of them: pure gore, nothing more. Though, ironically, they both have really good suspense, etc.
Irrespective of what you thought about Shuttle, it featured little gore and relied on other techniques to build suspense and is not
"torture porn."

Yes I do know what torture porn is. It is a catch phrase now to describe movies where there is very little thought given to the plot which is nothinig more than an excuse for extreme violence.
We all know human trafficking does happen but this movie didnt explore the motives of the people exportiing young women for sex slave industry. It simply used them to be exploited on film and shown a lot of violence. Any 5th grade could come up with a deeper plot than this.
The plot existed as a reason to show realistic violence. It is not a movie like Hatchet which is just used to parody it's own genre with use of over the top violence.
Violence on screen does not bother me in the least. I have seen the majority of video nasties from guinea pig to 120 Days of Sodom. At least 120 days has artistic merit and more of a story.
You guys say Hostel is torture porn but this isnt. what is the difference? Hostel has the plot of the kids vacationing in Europe and get taken prisoners by sadistic killers. Hostel 2 takes it further where people pay a lot of money to get to kill a real person. The premise for both these movies (especially Part 2) was much better than Shuttle but all three are torture porn. The story is just a means to show brutual violence which all 3 movies do.
Make a movie that shows both sides of the story and more about the sex slave side including what haappens in China or wherever else these women are shipped off to and cut down the violence a little or god forbid have some of it off screen and you could have a good movie. Instead we get this rubbish with a whole red herring scene in the quickie mart that does not even materialize. The reason it didnt is because they knew what they were making and the plot was not relevant.
If you like this type of movie then go see "The Ruins". I admit the acting isnt the greatest and it is loaded with violence with young people partyng in Mexico but at least it is about the plot more than the violence and was actually based on a book unlike Shuttle. -

First off let me say, this is just my opinion so you are entitled to your own opinions.
However, we are using different definitons of torture porn. Also you are speculating that most people take your definition as what Torture Porn is and even if you are correct does not make it a more accurate version.
Again, my definition is a movie where the ploto is secondary to showing explicity violence. The movie was created just to show violence with the plot being nearly and afterrhought.
Lets discuss regular PORN. Porn movies have little no plot. They simply exist to show as much sex as possible.
This is why I classify Hostel, Hostel 2 and Shuttle in the torture porn categoery.
It is not about the violence. It is about whether the movie is simply a vehicle to show violence with the plot being secondary.
this is the same reason I consider a movie like Basic Instinct not to be porn. I believe their is a unrted cut that would get NC-17 but the movie has a plot and the ndity nd violence is veru much part of the story
