An horrific story ends horrifically. What's wrong with that?

"You knew they were going to die and that there would be a sad twist"
that's actually not guessing the ending, that's vaguely sensing where it might be heading.
i would even somewhat let the following count: "they flee, they get stuck, protagonist kills the rest out of mercy", without the actual twist.
but claiming "you guessed the ending" and then give us "they were going to die and that there would be a sad twist." and afterwards even calling people names, that called you out on your BS is quite rich. QUITE rich. -

Yes I knew they were going to flee and that he was going to kill the son, and that they would be saved after. All you have to do is watch movies with twists often to guess the possible endings. And that person were being a dick.
Don't you have anything better to do than argue with girls on the internet, pretty sad if you ask me -

how was it dumb UNTIL the ending? the entire script was smart, using religion as the driving tool of horror rather than the creatures in the mist. the whole film deserves to be dissected and talked about in regards to it's allegory about religion and fear-mongering.

Nah it's not like it called for a happy ending but I didn't really buy it. The mist had been there for like 3 days at that time and they had very little information about what was happening globally. I don't see how 5 (ok, 4, the boy was sleeping) all give into this without any objections. It seems really unlikely and the ending felt too constructed.

wrongNight Of The Living Dead ending was ironic with racial overtones, so your example is lousyThe Mist ending is contrary to what the movie was about:survival against almost hopelessly impossible odds by sticking together and fighting for your lives, not acquiescing

I would've ended it with him using the 4 bullets and then getting out of the car, staring up at the monster screaming and then the credits roll. It would've still been depressing and gloomy but the deaths wouldn't have felt like they were for nothing. But either way, this is an ending I won't forget any time soon. It takes a lot to shock me because I know almost every horror movie trick in the book, but this ending was a major surprise.
