why such graphic sex scenes?

Was thinking about this after seeing the film the other night. The sex scenes in this are unlike anything before in a mainstream movie right? Very graphic - pretty much the same level as standard 'soft' porn that people would watch on VHS years ago. But now in this world we live where hard corn porn is available at the click of a button (in maybe the last 10 or so years?) its made 'soft' porn more acceptable so can now be in mainstream movies without much censorship?

Wrong.

Prior to the PG-13 rating, most "teenage" comedies were R rated. Porky's, The Last American Virgin, Private School. Even some PG-13 movies showed full frontal nudity - The Woman In Red, Doc Hollywood,
I think the opposite has been true. Studios have found they make most of their money from teenagers who go see movies. Since the parents often have to (or choose to) go with them, there is no reason to add nudity to the movie and get it an R rating. Less teens would be able to see it and parents wouldn't take them.
So, IMO, all you are getting is the "shock" of an R rated movie actually having a lot of full nudity in it like they used to as opposed to a few shots of a woman's breasts or rear-end. -

Why not? Wall Street guys do hookers and have sex.
Why aren't you asking why there is such graphic violence in a movie about finance? Was it really necessary to break that guys nose and show that? It was very disturbing. -

i kept thinking about the amount of nudity in this film as i watched it. bc it becomes overkill at the 3rd nudity scene i would say.
it becomes an over abundance of nudity about halfway through this movie and then you become numb to the sex and nudity and then it loses its impact also.
the problem with this excess amount of sex and nudity is it devolves into softcore porn. there is a very good reason why legitimate movies have a kind of unspoken, unwritten rule that is a movie shoudn't ever have more than 2 scenes of tits or sex in it.
there is a point where it becomes gratuitous and excessive even if it makes sense for the plot and needs to be in the plot.
yeah i just made a post about this. this is the most sex filled and the most nudity filled movie that is well made and well received by the critics that has ever been made.
the only legitimate movie that has as explicit of sex scenes or as much nudity as this film that was well received when it came out and was well made is a clockwork orange.
the only thing that make your statement false is that this is the outlier the only movie like this made in the last 10 or so years.

Only gays or virgin prudes would complain like this.
Not that I am complaining at all since I like sex and nudity in my movies.
I just wonder how real it was that they had shameless sex in front of everyone else in the office like that.
