babies that hadn't been baptized yet would be stuck in "limbo"
Some of the nuns at St Mary (my old elementary school) would tell us that but I don't know if that was official church doctrine at the time. The nuns would tell us some pretty outlandish things. My favorite was the time Sister Beatrice told us that Jesus took revenge on the Romans after he was crucified by opening up the Earth and swallowing them all up! Where the hell was THAT in the Bible?! lol -

According to Catholicism, all are born with original sin. If unbaptized, they were to go to limbo (Purgatory). However, more modern teachings is that their fate is entrusted to God's mercy, with the traditional concept of limbo no longer considered an official teaching, meaning there is hope for their salvation even without baptism. But this is not a definitive answer and the Church encourages trust in God's love in such situations.
