When a pope dies, a series of protocols are initiated. Here’s a brief overview of the process:
Announcement: The death is officially announced to the public.
Sede Vacante: The period known as "sede vacante" (the vacant seat) begins, during which the papal office is temporarily unoccupied.
Conclave Preparation: Cardinals gather to prepare for the conclave, where they will elect the new pope.
Funeral: The deceased pope typically has a state funeral, which is attended by numerous dignitaries and followers.
Conclave: Within a specified time, usually about 15 to 20 days, the cardinals convene in a conclave to elect a new pope.
Election: The new pope is chosen by a two-thirds majority vote among the cardinals. Once elected, he is announced to the public.
This process is steeped in tradition and has specific rules outlined in the Church's canon law.

                  Ok.
This morning I received thrilling news: a joke I wrote more than 20 years ago has been voted the funniest religious joke of all time! In case you've missed it, here it is:
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"
He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"
Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

Same thing that happens when anything dies, nothing.
