When she gets out instead her becoming Ripley starring in War of the Worlds/Signs what else could it have been?? I desperately trying to think of something but other than some alien variation* (different type of alien but still aliens), zombies (equally overused), nuclear apocalypse (too bland/obvious for a 'cloverfield' twist), monsters (already done/too obvious a twist ending for it to be the cloverfield monstor), rapture (done already a few times over couple of years ago ), afterlife/she died in the crash Sixth Sense style (Lost had done that right) I can't think of anything better than..uh aliens..
*maybe the aliens couldve been 1950 style..? like Retro 1950s type Flying saucers (but obviously done with todays FX) tying in with the 50s alien invasion paranoia. All aliens of today seem to be the same boring biomechanical moving parts type crafts (Transformers, Skyline, Cowboys and Aliens, Star Trek 2009 etc) Also the ground alien could've been the more tradition 'grey' type which hasn't been done (effectively) for a while.
Or maybe the end twist could've been it was running parallel to something already established or already 'known' to moviegoers so they'd be all 'OMG its actually a sequel/prequel/sidequel to.!!'(but then that'd infringe on other IP unless it was BadRobot) -

Well, since it's a Cloverfield series movie (that was pretty well known) it was either proof of aliens or nothing. I thought less-is-more would have been better for the ending but it break the movie for me like it did some. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
