I like all of the Pirates movies. All of them. I like two more than the others but thats besides the point. I've been a fan since i was ten and i do read the books when i can find them and play the games.
With all that said i have a few questions that have been on my mind lately.- This was covered on a thread on the AWE board but i'll post it anyway. Why was Will so accepting of Barbossa in AWE. His actions in DMC and AWE were all in order to free his father from the Flying Dutchman. Barbossa was the reason Bootstrap was on that ship! But like i said on that board, everyone needed Barbossa alive.
- In AWE Jack actually left the Pearl In Tortuga long enough for Barbossa to steal it? Sure Gibbs was on it, but Jack knows Gibbs likes to drink. Therefore you would think that Jack would make a better plan to keep Barbossa from taking it while he was partying in Tortuga other than Gibbs staying on it.
- This is a big one to me. So Jack is in his cell when Barbossa and crew attack Port Royal. He knows Barbossa and his crew are really cursed and that they're looking to end it. Will frees Jack in hopes he'll help save Elizabeth. Why doesnt Jack just give Will the bearings to Isla de Muerta and tell him to save Elizabeth by offering himself as the blood to be repaid? If Jack did that then all he would of had to do was wait and track down the Pearl later so he could kill Barbossa and take the ship. He really had no reason to use Will as leverage. Will would have still done whatever sas necessary to save Elizabeth. That would mean hardly any interference from the Royal Navy and no ship battles and marooning. And hardly any bloodshed. Everyone would have still gotten what they wanted.
- When Elizabeth realizes that her father was killed by Beckett, she goes in full blown battle mode. She now considers herself a Pirate and insists that the pirates go to war with the Navy, Beckett and the EITC. When she's made King she decides thats what theyre going to do and then Parley is called and theres a meeting with Davy Jones, Beckett and Norrigton. Why didnt Elizabeth (or Barbossa or Jack) just shoot Beckett? Not shooting Jones i get, but of the three Beckett was the most powerful. He controlled Jones and was Norringtons boss. Norrington could have been shot too but most likely not by Elizabeth. Yes the meeting was a Parley which was in keeping with the Code, but the other three werent Pirates and Barbossa did say you must be a pirate for the Code to apply. I guess you could argue that the pirates were declaring war so the fact that they werent pirates didnt matter but i'm sure even Teague wouldnt have minded in this case.
- In COTBP Barbossa is dead and Elezabeth and Will decide to turn Jack in. But then they randomly change their minds and work to rescue him from the gallows? Uh what? Why not just let him escape in the first place? If they had done that Beckett wouldnt have had cause to arrest them im DMC.
- When Will was made Captain of the Flying Dutchmen the whole crew become real humans again. Does that mean that Will can control that and therefore let his crew stay humanlike? Does that also mean that Will can let his crew leave at anytime and make repairs to the ship anyway he chooses as long as he does his duty by ferrying the souls lost sea to the next world and not stepping foot on land?
- Calypso the Sea Goddess was released in AWE. We know she was captured by the first Brethren Court for the sole purpose of claiming the sea for themselves. Why then after shes released and the maelstrom ends is everything back to normal? In OST the sea and weather and everything else was the same as before. Did Calypso just forgive everyone and do nothing to the weather after Davy Jones died? Because if the weather and sea was like that before then what was the point of capturing her in the first place? (Unless Davy Jones tricked them into it).
8.In On Stranger Tides the first time we see Jack he's disguised as a King's Court Judge. He's scheming to save Gibbs from the gallows and finds Gibbs guilty of being innocent of being Jack Sparrow. How did no one in the courtroom besides Gibbs not notice the judge was Jack. Surely the people would have noticed that wasnt the judge! (This is the one scene in the whole series where i sit back and say they went a little over the top). - Rather than going down with the Pearl Barbossa cuts off his own leg and joins the Navy as a Privateer with the idea that he's going to kill Blackbeard and take his ship and sword. Did Barbossa not realize that the Pearl wasnt sunk only shrunk? Surely if he knew The Queen Anne's Revenge was an evil ship that could be controlled with a single sword then he would have known or atleast heard that Blackbeard shrinks ships not sinks them.
- In AWE Beckett has control of Davy Jones heart and uses that fact to make Davy Jones a pirate hunter. Jones sails his ship looking for pirates and their ships. Why in all this wasnt The Queen Annes Revenge ever involved? It

- I didn't see them as completely returning to humans. I thought that they just got just less freaky and disfigured to symbolise the newer, kinder Captain.
- It was in a different location. Also, the Revenge being a magic ship aswell means that the Dutchman could have had problems capturing it, or even been destroyed trying.
- Since Bootstrap is no longer alive in a normal sense
and
joined the Dutchman/becomes part of the ship, maybe he doesn't have blood or his blood doesn't work the same way as it would have when he was just cursed.

Regarding your answer to number 11.
Do you think that Bootstrap was cleared of the curse when everyone else was because of Wills blood being used? I guess he had to be, but i do wish the writers would have cleared that up. If anything it would have linked COTBP with DMC and AWE. -

- Think you answered your own question, everyone had their motives, and no one really trusted each other.
- Only guess on this is Jack just does his own thing and figures it will all work out. As much as he claims the pearl means to him, it obviously is a secondary thought to him.
- First off, this wouldn't make for much of a story would it? Second, he had heard rumors, but didn't know it to be true. He wanted to be directly involved to get his revenge properly.
- While I agree with the premise that shooting Beckett would have been the fastest solution, again gotta keep the storyline moving. Parley was a generally accepted practice for militaries, so even if it wasn't a pirate code violation, it would still be an honor violation, movie no no for the good guys. Also, what if it was unsuccessful, maybe norrington takes the bullet, or Davey Jones special powers prevents it? Then they all get killed, series over.
- While this is a silly plot contrivance, them letting Jack go doesn't necessarily preempt the warrants in dmc. They still "allowed a pirate to escape." They were trumped up charges for Beckett to get to Jack, so he would have found a way.
- I think that's a reasonable assumption to make as it's stated that the curse took over because Davy Jones was derelict in his duty.
- Fair point, they never really go into any depth about why they decided to do this. Seems likely Jones may have used their lust for power to convince them. Also, My assumption is the weather returns to normal because calypso was appeased.
- Pretty simple here, first off do you know what your local magistrate looks like? How about in a time with no internet or television, where men wore wigs and make up? The ones who recognized something was out of order were shown being handed money, so they were bribed. The rest were just unsuspecting commoners.
- In general ost was weak on storyline substance and continuity. Barbossa didn't seem to know exactly what he was getting into, and probably let his rivalry with Jack overshadow his other quest.
- It's almost as if they only planned the trilogy, but decided to milk the cash cow some more. While black beard and queen Anne's revenge are prominent pirate lore, there was no mention of it earlier. Maybe you can chalk it up to being a European mystical pirate vessel and not a Caribbean one.
- First off, the timeline of events isn't exactly clear. Safe to assume Jack was mutinied upon, abandoned on the island, then the rest of the crew proceeded to isla de muerte to collect the Aztec gold. After this boot strap sends some money home, maybe the wife and kid decide to move to America with that money? Still his conscience in doubt, he continues to question Barbossa, so they put him on the ocean floor. Hard to say how long it took to realize the curse, and trying to find bill would have been like a needle in the hay stack. Easier to track down his child. Also remember they had no proof that the flying Dutchman was real at this point, and even if it were real how do men who can not die summon it? Also, there would be no need for Orlando bloom, sad female audience.
- Seems like when bill transferred to the Dutchman his initial curse was lifted when he took on the curse of the flying Dutchman. Still an interesting mental picture.
- Where to start on this one. Obviously this is another storyline that was not set up. Otherwise barbossa would have had to pass his piece of eight to a successor, or I assume it would have deferred to regetti as he had possession of the eye. Second, she returned barbossa from the dead to rescue Jack. Maybe the rest is implied, but not guaranteed. Third, I think he must have kept this henchman close for this very reason, although it's still hard to figure out why he'd leave something that important with a dolt who almost lost it constantly.
Ok. That's enough of that.
