Sung Kang ruined this movie.

I liked the movie a fair bit, and agree Sung Kang's performance/character was the weakest trait of the film.
I think it is the actor, as a good actor can usually make something out of a poor script. Perhaps, he was just the wrong choice for this role. I don't mind him in Fast and Furious movies, but he was nothing special over there I would not have chosen him to co-star in a Stallone actioner

Very true nuances in emotion are lost unless you've grown up around asians.
Saying that the character he played was kind of a dick and unlikeable, that might have been intentional and was a poor choice in hindsight since Kang does cool and likeable well. -

Are you some senior citizen who just discovered what the internet is? Your reply sounds like some racist simpleton from the 40s.
If Asians aren't able to convey emotions as you so stupidly claim, then how are Asians able to function at all in society and get by with one another?
Seriously, this is reply of yours is so stupid that I wonder if getting out the door to your house without causing a fire is like climbing Mt. Everest for the rest of us. That is, if you even leave the house at all which I doubt seeing as your comment on Asians sounds as if you never actually met one in real life and only get insight on Asians from those stupid Hangover movies. -

taylor was annoying, stupid, humorless and untrustworthy. a complete douche. i really hated the guy.
so this was either brilliantly written and performed, badly written or both badly written and performed.
i'm going with c) but you are entitled to your own opinion. this is not to say that kang isn't able to do better. in this he simply blows imho. -

Acting I don't know maybe it was good but he acted as a beep idiot so what's the point -

I somewhat agree with Kang being a bit off and wrong in this role and I think it's partial blame to a pretty pedestrian script. The two leads had a awkward relationship and I know it was meant to be, but it went beyond that, and really just felt like they were winging it and not giving their best effort. A pretty dull movie with little to redeem it. The two fight scenes with Sly and Jason are its only bright spots and kind of answers why this film was not shown to critics beforehand.

I did notice, during the mask party, when Sung Kang walked into the room, before I knew it was him, I thought "that character looks so out of place, the people at the party must notice", then I saw it was him and thought he stands out at this party, but he also stands out because he doesn't carry himself like a cop. at all. But mainly the things his character did are the things that annoyed me, so that's not the actor's fault.
all that aside, Sarah Shahi was amazing. She was so nice to look at in every scene and she had great personality- I hope we see more of her. -

Oh, and Christian Slater was pretty good to see in a fairly substantial role. I feel bad for the guy. He was an A-lister for a brief period, then that girlfriend hitting incident and suddenly he was shunned- NOT that I think he should have done that, but I don't think he should be exiled because of it. Someone like Val Kilmer (who does similar films to Slater now), who was a real jerk on set and very demanding- he deserves a little humility, but from what I've heard of Slater, aside from the gf thing, he seems like a pretty nice guy.

Yep I agreeKang has zero screen presencehe is just a dull actorhe works in smaller none talkin roles like fast and the furios but in this his just a big beep miscast or igonrance from Stallone. They should have kept Thomas Jane who started out to film this with Stallone or went with Jet Li or someone who can act and have some presence on screen.
