Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Cockneys vs Zombies

    wielderofspoons — 11 years ago(November 02, 2014 07:15 PM)

The problems with this mess that stick out most after having the (dis)pleasure of viewing it:

    • Characters' premise ripped straight from The Blues Brothers movie (obtaining money to save place of upbringing).
    • Am I meant to root for a bunch of violent robbers who never admit any shame whatsoever?
    • Why does every sentence need the f word worked into it? British people actually don't talk anything like this, especially not the elderly.
    • Characters wielding fancy firearms almost throughout, despite Britain having some of the strictest gun laws in the world.
    • Zombies that are so slow they can't catch a pensioner with a zimmer frame and so weak a crowd of them struggle to get through a fence or some windows. Yeah, a lot of danger and tension there.
    • About two black zombies next to hundreds of white onesin a city where nearly half of the UK's black and Asian population live and are either the majority or near to it.
    • Lack of any overall story. What are the infection's causes? How has it spread so quickly? Where do they go in the boat at the end? Can the infection be beaten?
Just stupid from start to finish.

As much as I hated this film, your review of it is pedestrian, selfish, and smarmy. Getting money to save X has been done dozens of times before, it's the friggen plot of every TV show-to-movie adaptation that's ever come out. And I don't care if the robbers look sad and tell us how guilty they feel for robbing the bank, that's not the type of movie it's set out to be, that being said, all of the main characters were shapeless, boring, and half-wit-clever. And I don't care about the F word, as long as they use it strategically, which they didn't. It's explained that the CRIMINAL mental mickey had the guns, also UK doesn't have the worst gun laws, shooters still are able to get guns you wouldn't be able to in the US due to the "Assault Weapons Ban" aka "The Black Plastic Furniture Ban". The only thing is that most guns in the UK supplement their semi-auto ban by makin their guns bolt-operated single-shot rifles, but this is all a far cry from the film itself.
The only thing I agree with is the lack of overall story, but even still that's so general. Congratulations, you dislike movies for all the wrong reasons and never for the right ones.

That's the whole point. It's called Cockneys vs Zombies, for beep's sake. What did you expect?

I disagree with virtually everything you said here but, in particular, Blues Brothers.
Throughout the movie, I was reminded of other stuff but not one did "The Blues Brothers" come to mind.
Also, I don't know what old people you know but people don't just stop sweating suddenly when they reach a certain age.

Working with hundreds of British people every day, I have to disagree that they don't talk like that, especially when agitated. As for the guns, there's a reason.. the psychotic guy was a CRIMINAL and had guns. Also them not exactly being threatening was part of the comedy, like when the old man was being chased. Do you really expect to be on the edge of your seat over an obvious comedy?

I don't know whether you're British or not
              Or where you live
But living in Essex and travelling around London a lot - I think British people talk very much like this
Swearing is almost like a natural thing
Plus, I know a lot of old people who swear galore, especially men.

Your telling me there's not one criminal out there who has a container full of firearms? No matter how strict gun laws are criminals will find a way to get firearms into where ever they need and judging that the character had a container full is obviously a underground weapons dealer of some sort. I actually think it's important to note that no matter how strict gun laws are the bad guys will always find a way around them while the average citizen will be the ones without defense.
