How far in the future is it? Worth a prequel?

It must be many hundreds of years, if not thousands. The jabberjays have had time to breed with the mockingbirds and to create a new species. This is on top of the face the outline of America is very different. I know the reason for the creation of the Capitol is never given, but I think a prequel exploring that, and even Haymich's own Hunger Games would be interesting

I always figured the movie was set a few hundred years in the future. So much has not changed, if you think about it. Automobiles, televisions, the need for coal, enough remains the same that I don't think it's that far away.
As far as prequels, I've long thought that would be an excellent idea. I'd love to see something about the war, about the early Hunger Games, about President Snow's rise to power.
We can hope!
I intend to live forever.
So far, so good. -

But knowing the history in more detail would be fascinating. I agree about Snow's rise to power. The 'dark days', the instigation of the games themselves. Mags' games, Haymich's games, Beetee's and so on. And the behind the scenes brewing of the revolution. Plutarch's involvement for example. I think it would be fabulous!

As a fan, I personally would like to see Haymitch's game. However, I don't think it or any other prequel is likely. It's tough to pull off a prequel. Even with Haymitch's game, wouldn't it largely be ruined by knowing he wins? It would largely be a "fan's only" type of thing and those types of things usually don't win over movie studios.

In regards to how far in the future, most estimates I've heard have said 400-500 years. If you look at it, technology really hasn't changed THAT much. However, it's clear that at least some time has definitely passed.
