When they where going through their weapons and the guy says I have a board with a nail in it. Is that a reference to the Simpsons treehouse of horror?

Sounds like a Simpsons reference to me. Halloween episode when Aliens take over Springfield until Moe finds a board with a nail in it

What was funny is he had clearly just made it and wanted some praise from the others.

Considering the episode with the board with a nail through it involved slimy multi tentacled invaders from outer space, I personally saw it as a direct reference.
