..if the film pays a little homage to the movies Alien (where Lisa is in the digger) and Predator (where Ciaran is covered in the mud, trying to get away from the Grabber). Just after watching it and it reminded me of those classic movies is all

Didn't ripley kill one of the aliens with a piece of machinery.
There was only one alien in Alien and Ripley blew it out of the shuttle by first opening the hatch and then shooting it with some type of grappling gun. When she saw that it was still alive outside and crawling into one of the engine nozzles, she started the engines and fried it.
Prior to that, anyone who directly encountered the alien was killed by it. Or if you watch the extended edition, they were taken and cocooned so that they would eventually turn into new eggs.

So what you're saying is you're being pedantic because he said Alien instead of Aliens? You knew fine well what he meant.
Yes, and I was trying to gently nudge them in the right direction. Then someone else missed the point, so I posted a more detailed message.
It's one of my pet peeves when people talk about a movie or show and can't even name the right title. Like when people talk about horror movies and say they liked that one where Jason was killing people in their dreams.

You are thinking of Aliens, where she uses the mechanical transformer type thing to get rid of the alien. I also noticed the scene where the babies were running around in the bar reminded me of Gremlins. Or was it Gremlins 2?

Aliens! Aliens, that's what I'm thinking of. I stand corrected and apologise for missing out an ' s '. So we have cleared up the first question, does anyone know what I mean about the whole predator scene after Dutch has swum out of the lake and is being pursued by " one ugly futha mucka "

The Aliens reference was very obvious (and awesome!) as Lisa even screams "Get away from him you beep before crushing the monster with the bulldozer. I didn't catch the Predator reference but now that you mentioned, I think you're right about that. "What are you waiting for! Come on! Come and get me!", that whole scene definitely gives a strong Predator vibe.

You are not crazy, I noticed those 2 plus others, this movie was filled
with homages to other horror/sci-fi movies.
I personally thought that this was one of the better horror/sci-fi/comedies
that I have seen in a long time, and I watch a ton of these type of movies.
I thought the chemistry between the main actors were spot on, and the
2 gardas love chemistry was so perfect that I believed it as if I were
watching the greatest romcom that has been put to film.
People are saying that it is unrealistic that 2 people can fall for one
another so hard so fast, those people need to get out more. I personally
have been at a bar or a get together, and met a girl and we got along
instantly. One time I was walking through a crowded dance floor(no I wasn't
drunk) and heard a girl that I passed say something about how I looked good.
I spun around and ended up face to face with the girl. I asked her what she said
ans watched her turn red. we danced and talked. left and went to a dennys and
she spilled her coffee, I cleaned it up for her without a second thought.
she told me later, after she broke up with her then boyfriend so we could
see each other, that when I cleaned up her coffee, that she knew that we
were meant for each other. we were living together soon after and it
lasted about a year. we still keep in contact after 20 years. so ya,
people do fall for each other like they see in movies, you never know
when mister/misses right will come along. -

I most definitely picked up on both Predator and Aliens reference. Right before crawling backwards covering himself in mud he screaming for the thing to come get him. And the bar scene reminded me of Gremlins (first movie).

Like a lot of horror films I think I paid homage toa lot of the classics - like someone mentioned there the ttremors tie in, not to mention the night of the living dead was playing on the TV in the background towards the beginning. ("their coming to get you, Barbara")
