I had a problem with Dale being able to pass that off in the elevator.
The security guard who has watched him clear his desk stop him touching company files or emails is happy for him to hand over an item which could (and did) have confidential and critical files on it?
It pretty much irked me the entire length of the movie. -

Was the security guard supposed to do something to him for NOT taking company property FFS?
He had this proprietary material on his person while on company property and he handed that material over to someone, his former direct-report, who was authorized to take possession.
It is a shame you were distracted from the entire movie over something that is actually nothing.

I thought that myself. I would have thought the security guard would take it and give it to his direct superior, who would then determine what underling of Dale's it would be given to. Upper management wouldn't leave to the discretion of a security guard as to what does/doesn't get passed from employee-being-escorted-off-property and other-employee-still-on-the-job. They cut Dale off from email, phone, etc because they claimed it was potentially dangerous to the company/firm. They would certainly tell a security guard to take possession of anything not personal property of Dale.

Totally agree with comment about upper management not entrusting the security guard with such sensitive material.
Security guard would be more concerned with outside snoops (lol) as he probably feels intimidated by the head honchos. -

Yeah, that part wasn't realistic. He has the usb on his person, so I buy that part. But the guard wouldn't let him pass it on to anyone, unless the guard thought he was giving personal property or something he forgot he had, to another worker there. But IF the guard heard it, he would've confiscated it or reported it. It's possible he didn't see that, though. Tucci was speaking in a low voice and had his back to the guard, when he passed it to Peter.
But whether he passed it off then or later is a minor point. It's a movie, so they can't get bogged down in minor details.
