Why is everyone hating on this movie?

Just saw it, thought it was pretty bad actually. Like a chick flick dumbed down for Redbook readers. Paint by numbers woman is not helpless empowerment vehicle, with the added insult of not being subtle about it in the least, a couple characters actually say more than once that "she can handle it herself" with condescending smiles. Julia Roberts phoned this one in, I really expected more scenery chewing from her, Nathan Lane fun as always but he wasn't given much to work with. The bollywood song thing at the end made me cringe it was so out of place. Pacing was poor and acting was surprisingly wooden given the recognizable faces in many of the roles. On the plus side, for parents with small children there isn't a lot to worry about here, very little menace (though there are a couple scenes) and no cussing, so if you are tired of watching Dora the Explorer this might be a good change of pace.

here are what the top 5 comments would be.
(please note. this is not what i would ever say. this is the typical comments you find on almost any imdb thread)- Robin Wright is fat and ugly, her face has a funny shape
Followed by 8 paragraphs describing exactly why, how, when, and where, that Robin Wright is an ugly hag and the author cant see why anyone would ever like her. - first movie i ever walked out on.
Followed by a 3 paragraph essay about how stupid the scenes were, including Miracle Max's plum, Miracle Max's makeup, Fezzik's accent, the electronic score, etc etc. - terrible film
Followed by a brief, brief comment saying something like 'i found this boring', 'i expected an action film, they spent all this time talking', etc - not christian
Indigo Montoya says "you son of a bitch", therefore this film is not 'christian'. Someone will invariably have dragged their 8 year old to see it, and then complain bitterly into the gaping void of the internet that they have been 'hoodwinked' by the marketing and had no idea that such vile, anti-Jesus language would be in the film - Money + career thread
This film bombed, because it is so terrible. The director should be drawn and quartered, they will never recoup their costs, marketing makes up half the budget, worldwide doesn't matter, the main actors career is over, the supporting actors career is over, i cant understand why they made this film, they must be desperate for cash, this studio is really going under, etc etc etc.

because it doesn't have a depressed and brooding protagonist, or every character giving off a filibuster every time they open their mouth, or preaching that everybody becomes evil if they don't die young.

You CANNOT say "Why is everyone hating ON this movie?"
You CAN say "Why is everyone hating this movie?"
Same as you CANNOT say "I like on food."
But you CAN say "I like food."
I hope you see the difference, because I have a feeling your native tongue is English. English is merely a secondary language to me.
I'd be embarrassed if I were you reading this post! -

Ok. First of all I love the director, he has made one of my favorite movies. But this is wow.
The alterations suck, it's not funny even though it is supposed to be, the editing is bad, the acting isn't that great either, It's like one of those parodies gone bad.
On the plus side some of the sets look good (though others look really bad and cheap), and the camera is generally quite good. -

I don't hate this movie. But it is pretty lame. And don't get me started on the ending. (Place vomiting emoticon here!)
And no, it is not the best adaptation of the original fairy tale. Not by a long shot. It's cute and somewhat fun, but that's about it. Basically, it's a dumbed down version.
You want an example of why I think it's dumbed down? Here we go: Prince Alcott taking on the personality of a puppy.

I randomly watched it on Netflix some time ago and ended up buying the DVD I liked it so much. It's silly, goofy and simple. but we need more films like that! Nathan Lane was adorable, Julia Roberts was the right amount of nuts, the dwarfs were hilarious, and Armie Hammer/Lily Collins were sweet. I loved the end with the beast, too.
Plus Sean Bean DIDN'T die! It must be celebrated.
