It's true, I can't get through Twilight, not to mention Harry Potter or even The Hunger Games yet. Still I'm not sure if I would characterize them quite the way they do in the movie. I find them well enough written. Could Bram Stoker's Dracula, highlighted in the film as good literature, have been considered sensational drivel by literary types when it first came out?

It was unfair. You know why? Because this movie has the same narrative as Twilight. Both stories are about two problem-free white people with a huge age-gap.

They aren't well-written - but it's still unfair because that doesn't mean that people can't or shouldn't enjoy them.
"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

My daughter read the Twilight books in her early teens and a few years later poked fun at them herself.

They are, by definition, fair. One of the main characters hates them and argues against them. The other main character likes them and argues for them.
That's what fairness is: Even debate.
