I really enjoyed that the mom wasn't one dimensional. They showed well how she can be a total pain to people, but she also got a lot of depth and you really end up feeling for her.
I also liked that the sisters had a good relationship and were both protective over each other, it really makes everythig more sad.
Pauline is a sad character. That's the most "horror" part about this, knowing that in her head she really tried to help and that she's a girl with mental disorder who needed help. You know that what she did is sinking in and since she isn't a sociopath, her life and any chance for mental health is ruined completely. The whole movie she is balancing on edge and now she fell over.
The ending where her mom hugs her and they both screem is great..
I found her prayers to be a bit annoying and "clever"/poserish. They didn't seem to fit her character, although at the end they might indicate how delusional she really was so I am not sure how I feel about those parts. I am not a fan of her fantasies too, a bit to aesthetic and polished. They didn't feel like genuine fantasies a sick person would have, more like music videos.
I was often annoyed by her, but I love how she handled other kids at school.
The unrealistic part for me was that the rope girl went with her to make amends. The initial conflict was that the rope girl was always rude to her and dismissed her as a freak. Even if Pauline apologizes, it doesn't make sense to think that the girl will suddenly want to give her time of day.
