Not only would it lead to a major embarrassment from when it inevitably gets exposed and potentially the loss of many practitioners, it's against the rules of Catholicism. Cardinals and thus the Pope are required to be men.

True, but none of the cardinal-electors were aware of it, when Cardinal Benitez was elected. Even Cardinal Lawrence wasn't aware until after the final vote, and he evidently wasn't going to reveal what he'd found out. However, when and if it's eventually discovered, it will be a major scandal.
However, Cardinal Benitez's explanation of his biological sexual make up was a bit ambiguous. He seems to have been intersex, with both male and female sexual organs.Not sure if there's any papal requirements to deal with that condition.
