It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be.

While I saw a bit of the Wednesday character peek out, I also clearly saw Jenna Ortega spread her wings a little bit with her acting chops. It's nice to see that she has the potential to not be perpetually typecast.
Delia and Lydia did a fantastic job, and they carried the show well. Michael Keaton looked pretty much the same. I found that bringing Delores into the fold didn't really do all that much to enhance the plot. It was okay.
The attempt to replicate the characteristic song from the first movie was completely lopsided and it didn't work at all. Perhaps it was the wrong song choice, but it was also how it was acted out. That was a fail.
It was easy to guess the story of Astrid's love interest and how they chose to conceal their faces in the introduction. They could have worked on that. Too predictable when she had to recite a foreign-to-her incantation to get to the underworld.
It was okay, and while it fell woefully short of the magic that made the first movie so spectacular, it wasn't a total loss. There were some entertaining moments. I'd rate it a solid 5 out of 10 stars. It's nothing I'm rushing out to watch again.
