I wonder if Rockstar could make a city modeled after Chicago or Detroit.
That would be Manhunt's Carcer City, which exists in the GTA universe. It has been referenced in each major GTA title since San Andreas. I'd love to see Rockstar kill 2 birds with one stone, and eventually make a GTA that also serves as a sequel/prequel to Manhunt. I think it would be bad a$$ to play the events that lead James Earl Cash to death row.

I'd at least like to see him, or some other Manhunt characters as side characters. Gary Schaeffer, the Carcer police chief, would be perfect for GTA.
Real life ain't as dope as the movies.

Carcer City (Detroit) and whatever they'll decide to call Windsor.

A rebooted Carcer City which is pretty much analogous with Detroit, with a cameo from a fictionalized Windsor, would be great. The strong presence of the auto industry just makes it silly for this to not be done. Plus, recreations of the interiors of some of Detroit's abandoned and decaying buildings would make for neat places to explore, and settings for criminal activities. The soap opera that has been the political corruption in Detroit could inspire a very compelling story. With Windsor showing up, you could have cross-border smuggling missions, plus little hints of Trevor within the story, because of him being Canadian and all. Trevor's too big of a psycho to never get a mention in future installations of the series.

I'm just now noticing this reply. Carcer City supposedly represents a generic rustbelt city, not necessarily Detroit, which is also an interesting idea, but Detroit should be the one, since it could conform well to the island paradigm of
              Grand Theft Auto
cities, plus it is the Motor City with a the Grand Prix race track isle at that. Other rustbelt cities of course include the places found in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, and the other cities of the lower peninsula of Michigan, and they all have a similar look, with nice-looking downtown and suburbs but with numerous rundown factories and crack houses scattered throughout. Detroit notably has a few ghost neighborhoods within the city limits, though. I've never seen another urban area quite like it. At this point, wildlife are starting to move back in, and vines have overtaken numerous abandoned structures. It's weird.

You make it sound absolutely perfect for inclusion in the GTA universe. I especially look forward to jumping across the river on all those bridges when they are only halfway raised.
I can't wait to start doing missions in Detroit I mean Carcer City.

I'd love a GTA in Europe.
best city IMO would be Marseilles (and its region), early 70s. French Connection context.
All the ingredients of a good GTA : city on the sea, multi-ethnic, strong culture, lot of history, mafias and gangsters (Corsican, Italian, Central European, North African), drug traffic (heroin via the French Connection, but also Morroccan haschich), corrupted politicians and cops, night clubs, hookers,
The smaller towns around Marseilles are very characteristic and plot-friendly : industrial cities in the West (Fos, Marignane), rich cities (Aix En Provence in the North, and Toulon, Saint-Tropez, Cannes and its festival in the East), Saintes-Marie de la Mer and its Gipsy community would also bring a nice background. In the countryside in the North there is the Provence with its nice landscapes but also the first modern religious sects in France. And since it's a GTA and space is relative I guess we can add places that are a bit more remote but very characteristic like Monaco, the Alps and their ski resorts, and of course Corsica.
But Vice City would do too.

If Rockstar can break the norm from GTA 3 and 4 and come up with fresh new ideas for GTA 5, I have no doubt they can do the same for GTA 6.

No chance. Reams of dialogue in French? I doubt it very much. Americans are too partochial to play something set in Europe. Plus the satire wouldn't work. Its only America where you get such senseless gun crime, anywhere else would be unrealistic to the max.

The main element of the game is stealing automobiles and trafficking them throughout a city or across towns, but naturally there will be presences of narcotics and weapons. We're talking about
                        organized crime
. In such an alternative setting, perhaps the characters automatically get a two- or three-star wanted level for merely displaying a firearm (or RPG launcher) in most parts of town. Anyway, the games already have a degree of absurdity to them, in that the protagonist can acquire things like tanks, attack choppers and fighter jets, using them accordingly to create havoc. This kind of stuff doesn't really happen in the United States.

I remember seeing this footage or another incident like it before. As near as I can tell, it only happened once or twice in the last forty years in the United States. So, yes, technically I was incorrect if giving the impression that such things never ever happen at all. What I had in mind is the fact that such vehicles are restricted and heavily regulated, everywhere in the world that they may exist. No doubt, France has combat vehicles too that can be stolen if somehow there is a breach of security. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has ever stolen a combat aircraft, though, and proceeded to fly between skyscrapers, under bridges or above houses, or to land on random roadways, successfully yet still making a scene. Maybe with a helicopter but definitely not with a plane much less a jet capable of traveling at supersonic speeds (which can definitely create shockwaves that would knock somebody off his/her feet and blow out windows).
                            😉

not sure we played the same game.
stealin cars and trafficking are just background elements.
what are the GTA games for me (since GTA3) ? playing an action game focused on 3rd person shooting and driving, with a very strong scenario, great characters and the best dialogue lines in the VG industry.

Well, they might not be the "main" element of the game, but they're the essential common element of the game

, the protagonist's initial missions involve repossessing or stealing cars. At the very least, stalkings, car chases and drive-by shootings are expected, and it can be this without being gun-centric. (It'd even be interesting if the protagonist's first obtained firearm is acquired from a fallen law enforcement officer, even one-eighth-way into the progress of the game.) Things like raids and heists have become rather important two in the latest of the GTA games. I don't see how this cannot work in any urban setting or parody thereof.

about language : the French connection implied plenty of international people. The main part of the plot and dialogue could be in English. of course the "environmental" language wouldn't be English. mostly French, with a bit of Arabic, Italian,
I agree that although some Marseille "sensless gun crime" humour would be fun (the city actually has a violent history, nothing compared to American cities of course since guns have always been banned in France) it wouldn't work as good as some good ol' American violent humor.
