Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Green Inferno

I loved Green Inferno, I had a blast watching it with a friend and a couple of six-packs.
Obviously it is a terrible movie, but was it terrible on purpose?
While I like the Grindhouse homages by Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino, they are very clearly
    homages
and have an obvious ironic distance from the source material.
Green inferno feels like a 'so bad it's good B-movie' from the '70s. Well, to me, I'm no schlock expert.
But did Eli Roth make schlock on purpose? I know almost nothing about Eli Roth and have only watched Hostel and Cabin by him. I liked them both, but while clearly inspired by B-movies they seemed more like real movies with somewhat competent actors - sort of tongue in cheek. Green Inferno doesn't.
If he made an imitation of a B-movie I think he did a really good job, there weren't any of the boring parts or downright uncomfortable stuff (ie mistreatment of the 'actresses')you often find in 70s-80s B-movies so I had a really fun experience watching this.
It just hits the mark so spot-on that I don't know if he made a great movie or just really beep up, so if it's on purpose it's actually very impressive.
