    I think one of the things that made this movie great was the story structure. Specifically how the structure mirrored the theme given about the alien language of logograms. They being non linear in time.
    The movie itself wove this into its structure which is what really added to its impact.
    {spoilers}
    The scifi time travel \ future vision element of the story allows the initial scenes you believe to be a flashbacks into the past to actually become the future. It creates a "strange loop" where the movie bends back on itself. The beginning of the film becomes the end creating a circular loop just like the logograms the aliens use to communicate. No defined beginning or end to the story. Its out of linear time just like their language is.
    Perhaps the logogram is meant to be a metaphor for the movie itself ? Were the writers aliens ? 😛
