Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Arrival

It seems that this film takes quite awhile to get motivated. Then when it finds its purpose it fails to be that amazing.
If you know the interpreter lost a child; then has to be recruited to translate alien intent, your up to speed and could lose the 1st hour of build up.
It's a fine made film, but without Adams showing some side-boob there just isn't much to get your attention.

You seem to have a one track mind, Larry.
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

        Interesting film conversation we're having.
My point is unless she's acting as eye candy (like in American Hustle) there just isn't much for her to do in this film.

Yea, she doesn't have much to do other than saving the day, and completing a character arc that ties into the film's themes.
Absolute rubbish! 100% agree that it needed more side-boob!

I like seeing what OP's like this one actually like in films. I guess this film isn't for lovers of superhero movies.

That made zero sense. So the "super hero" jab is a way to discount ones opinion as less than yours?
So if I enjoy a marvel movie your superior?
I bet your man bun pulls so hard your skinny jeans look like a thong!!!
Truth is this film was slow and not very interesting. And on average most Marvel films deliver on content. But if you enjoyed it good for you. Now get back to your Starbucks free wi-fi.

All it means is that you are interested in nonstop action instead of a slower burn movie. It makes perfect sense that your interests lie elsewhere and that is not the problem. The problem is that you come on here and make a statement that makes you out to be some kind of expert on what makes a great movie. You are the one who made yourself superior by saying that if we arrive late, we won't miss much. That, my friend, is someone who thinks his opinion is the only one out there and that everyone will think the same thing. I thought the movie was great from beginning to end.
I actually like some Marvel films. Guardians of the Galaxy and Dr. Strange were awesome. Not a big Avengers fan, but if you like it that is great, but don't try to tell other people what they should think about a movie just because you like The Avengers and Captain America. I actually liked the first two Captain America movies, but thought bringing the Avengers into the third movie was hit and miss with me. There were some great scenes, but a good deal of it bored me too. You see, you can have an intelligent conversation about movies without resorting to buns, jeans and Starbucks wi-fi. Try it, you might like it.
