What is the name of the music in the sad opening? It appears towards the end of the film too! I have heard it before but couldn't find it on the soundtrack

Richter's same piece was also used to great effect in Scorsese's Shutter Island.
I think it was used even more beautifully perhaps here in Arrival.

You should check out his work on the HBO show "The Leftovers."
          It is also very moving.

If you type in The Swimmer-Max Richter into youtube you will see it is also there and that is part of the soundtrack for a film called Disconnect, which coincidentally is also about communication.
Trying to create a funny, engaging YouTube channel. If you guys check it out, hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance.
            Review of the film here-
