Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Star Trek Beyond

Rehash Star Trek 5 where they go looking for God but instead run into the Q consortium.
The movies have done Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Endorians as plots but never Q and not the first encounter with him by Kirk and crew since the timelines have changed.
Have this be the first time the Q has encountered humans because of them going so far in space to find God.
    I'd watch it.

Apparently this film failed to find its audience and lost money - at least during it's initial cinematic release. Despite this they have apparently been writing and rewriting the next film ever since. According to Wikipedia the current position is:
In January 2024, the studio was revealed to be expanding its Star Trek film slate to have multiple films in development, inspired by the success of the multiple Star Trek series on the streaming service Paramount+. The in-development Star Trek 4 was described as the "final chapter" in the main film series at that time.
Though it's a little bit interesting that while some of the leads have an

in their IMDb credits, Chris Pine does not.
