Yea that was just dumb. I understand what he was doing was wrong and she didn't approve, however, he is an adult and working his ass off to provide a home for this family. Her reaction was a bit ridiculous.

I just watched this movie on Netflix and I agree about the grandmother. She was a very unrealistic character and was the worst part about the movie. She leeched off her own son and then whined and complained when he bought her a much nicer home than the one she didn’t pay the mortgage on and lost to foreclosure. She had zero gratitude for her son and the sacrifices he made to get them out of that crappy motel where they were living after being evicted.
