looking at the RT reviews, its actually kind of frustrating that a lot of critics were hellbent on the tone of the movie, when it was the script that was the real issue.
The tone didnt create the Martha scene, nor did it create the logic holes in the story. -

The tone IS part of the problem. You should never sit through a superhero movie feeling yourself becoming more and more depressed at the sheer ugliness that it's throwing at you. The Marvel films handle much darker material than anything this wretched hive of nastiness tackles, but they use humor and other means of lightening the load to keep their films from getting depressing.
You should never walk out of the cinema after having seen a Superman movie feeling worse than when you went in.
Imagine if Zack Snyder directed Captain America: Civil War. Imagine it. Tell me you would have enjoyed it nearly as much. Go ahead.

I disagree. I find it creatively limiting to merely think of Superman as an upbeat character. Yes, generally he is, but the saying goes "the brightest light casts the darkest shadow."
A Superman film CAN be depressing and CAN be emotionally exhausting. That's not the problem and I should hope that going forward, they won't just treat Superman like he's a light and fluffy character.
I think part of BvS' problem wasn't that it was depressing; it was that it struck the WRONG kind of depressing tone. The movie could have been utterly devoid of humor, but struck a different chord with people if it went for a more DRAMATIC and EMOTIONAL tone rather than DARK and DREARY tone. There are plenty of great movies out there that have a singular tone and are devoid of much humor. I think the MCU is great at what it does and I think Civil War is a superior film to BvS, BUT I wish WB/DC wouldn't just bail out of what they started by "chickening out" and hopping over to such a light and pulpy tone - really, the problems with BvS start and end with the writing, NOT the tone.
How does it feel to be deconstructed? -

With so many other issues with the movie it is hard to say that the tone of the movie was what put critics off. Other darker toned superhero movies which were well made have received good reviews before so I would say no.

A lighter tone would've meant a different script with more jokes. And yes, I do believe a lot of critics would've enjoyed it more given that a lot of reviews complained about how serious and depressing they found the film.
If Henry Cavill's Superman would've been a happy upbeat character many fans that were disappointed would've been so happy about that alone.
Take away the whole murdering Batman thing would've been even better.
