There was a new lumberjack in the camp and one day he is feeling anxious and tense.
He goes up to the foreman.
"So do you guys do anything around here to..uh..feel better?"
The foreman points to a little shed about 200 feet away.
"You see that little shed? Inside is a barrel with a hole in the side. Go in there, lower your pants and have your way with the hole."
"OK boss. I'll give it a try."
Which he does and a few minutes later feeling satisfied walks back up to his boss.
"Wow! That was great! Can I do that everyday?"
"Everyday but Saturday."
"Why not on Saturday?"
"Because Saturday will be your turn to be in the barrel."

There was one scene of a Chinese guy getting lynched and the main guy had occasional flashbacks of it. Most of the movie was just a lonely lumberjack going through his life.
when he was a lumberjack he was okay
cuz he sleeps all night and he works all day
in the beginning of the film it was said in narration that a memorable moment in that lonely life was when they deported a bunch of immigrants.
but yes, the lynching was interesting. the lumberjack was even kicked when he tried to help.
and then that negro fella shooting that preacher guy.
all very good lessons.
along with cutting down 1000 year old redwoods for train tracks that didn't matter in a couple of decades, so they could have something to do and a few bucks in their pockets.
not saying that's how it really was. i'm saying that those were some of the lessons in this best picture caliber film. -
