I watched it on HBO Max. I didn't care for it. However I can appreciate and recognize the films originality and writing and the great performances from Penn and Taylor. I still have no idea what the " Battle" was about though.

No. There is a slight difference. Tarantino's always writes long winded monologues for all of his main characters and his characters are more chatty.

Hmmm..other than Sean Penn raising the bar, there is still a slight difference between the approach from the two directors. I've watched and analyzed so many Tarantino movies that I see the difference.
