It has to do with names like Anderson and DiCaprio being attached. If we're being real, it was already nominated the day the project was announced. Sort of like how Meryl Streep was nominated for a while every time she decided to appear onscreen. Hopefully now that it's nominated, the voters will actually watch it and choose to reward better picks.

… Which mischaracterizes the requirements set by organizations like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for the Best Picture award. The requirements are focused on promoting diversity and inclusion, not passing a "woke test" to be nominated although I am sure that you would rather it called as such. There have also been plenty of films nominated which one might deem 'non-woke' (i.e insensible of social injustice and problems) such as The Wild Robot, A Real Pain, The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two, Gladiator II, A Complete Unknown, Flow … guess you were exaggerating a bit, then.
I think you'll find things are a little more complicated than that. -

I wouldn't say that A Complete Unknown is indifferent to social injustice. There's a message in the lyrics and the whole thing takes place in the shadow of Seeger and Guthrie being blacklisted. Very mediocre movie, though.

Sure, you're correct overall. The disappointment from these nominations is that Ari Aster has been overlooked once again. He needs to cast Leo in his next movie or something, since Joaquin Phoenix doesn't seem to garner automatic nominations for every movie he's in.

Yes, all fair points. At least you are critiquing the film's artistically or from a view of (Hollywood) politics; the ideological hatred shown by some on this board and elsewhere is ultimately sterile, imho.

How, exactly? It is a point of debate and interpretation, not an established fact. And still leaves all the other titles mentioned. I have more.

I haven’t seen all the films you’ve mentioned, but a movie about a Jew who flees the holocaust and gets raped in the ass by another dude is most certainly woke.
Hollywood is obsessed with woke, it’s a huge problem. -

And again, here you are lol
Also 'woke' is a subjective measure of intangibles, subject to context, perspective and issues of confirmation bias. I shan't say any more since I was hoping this thread would be free of such sterile arguments.

I think you were hoping for too much. Only a handful of posters here seem to actually like movies, especially contemporary movies. The rest only know what Fox News has told them about it.
