This movie has several story parts from movies like alligator, piranha, jaws and night of the creeps.
it's pretty obvious that with all the promos that this movie was only made to promote Jerrmy Wade and River Monsters.

There was even a River Monsters episode about lampreys right before the movie. What a coincidence!
