There's something so familiar about this specific horror/scifi drama series. It's very Stephen King-esque!
I posted this in another thread, but figure it deserves discussion on it's own merit.
    What do you think?
A boy tribe: All 11-13ish. Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin. 1980s instead of 1960s kids but SK all the way!
The Mystery: Will's disappearance and the "weirdo" girl. SK could have written this script
Altered reality: Upsidedown land! Very cool sci-fi twist.
Bad guys: The 'black' ops Gov't peeps!
Adults: I use the term loosely cuz the Adults here are the teenagers that the boy tribe looks up to (i.e.- Jonathan and Nancy)
Real Adults: They are caricatures in the trueness of a reall SK novel. Bumbling. Unwise, overbearing. The bad guys are bad and the good guys are flawed. I love SK
Inside info: that can only be understood by kids. The real adults don't get it until it's too late! The kids communicate thru Dungeons & Dragons. They speak their own secret language. They're curious by nature and fearless to a flaw! SK where are U?
The monster: super power, mystery being, seemingly indestructible! And messes with little kids like a SK classic novel villain!
I'm a class of 1981 grad. A tad older than the protagonists in this series, but the producers have done an excellent job with the 80s thematic backdrop IMHO!
And I vote Winona Ryder as best actress! She really nails the neurotic, sociopathic, single mom who can't do anything right, but she loves her two boys and is convincing in a crazy sort of way, how she sticks to her belief that she is in contact with Will! Awesome protrayal!
Re: The teenagers are a waste of screen time.

        SMFZone,
Thanks for compiling the list of threads in your reply. It was very useful.
And yes, I just joined IMDb. I had to comment on Stranger Things as I just binge-watched season 1 over the past two nights!

While I haven't seen the show, it sure sounds like it is incredibly derivative and unoriginal.
That explains why it's so popular!
