about this series, based on true events, testimonies, books and interviews, is that a lot of the people are portrayed as complete ****s of varying kinds. There are un-supportive, back stabbing senior police officers, the ambitious junior officers, a clearly coercive husband, dead-beat father of one of the victims and slimy defence barrister.
I wonder how they regard this program?
The actual killer, probably a serial killer with more victims than the two he was convicted of, is almost pushed into the background though it's a very nasty and chilling performance.
The program itself is OK, it starts strongly as a good procedural drama then loses its way a bit as the in-fighting begins. I'm not sure Martin Freeman is that well suited for the main role - he's a one of those very watchable and likeable actors but I don't think he had the range to carry what should be a more intense drama.
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!
