I know this might be a strange request, but I'm planning to write paper on the contrast in portrayals of the American mono myth of High Noon vs Rio Bravo and would also like to incorporate some modern surrogates. On the High Noon end, I have Connery in Outland but I'm drawing a blank on a good Rio Bravo clone. Ideally, I'd like to keep the Rio Bravo example sci-fi to match up with Outland but will welcome any suggestions.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Not so much sci-fi as horror/thriller, but John Carpenter's
      Assault on Precinct 13
(1976) is largely inspired by Rio Bravo.
Critics and commentators have often described Assault as a cross between Howard Hawks's Rio Bravo and George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Carpenter acknowledges the influence of both films.

        Ghosts of Mars (2001)
John Carpenter riffing on his own Assault on Precinct !3, and Rio Brava indirectly.
Go ahead and look. I hope you like what you see!
