I found a way to enjoy soda, like Mountain Dew

I don't drink soda (or at least I rarely do, and if I do, it's the very occasional diet Pepsi on ice). I generally do not have a sweet tooth. I got this craving for Mountain Dew the other day, so I got an idea. I put ice cubes in a glass, fill it about 3/4 with seltzer water (depending on what I'm drinking the flavour of seltzer varies). I've been using lemon seltzer. Then, I just sort of top it off with what I imagine is 1/4 cup of soda. Because I don't drink soda, I'm not feeling like I'm missing out on the mega dose of sugar that comes with straight up soda. I'm drinking primarily seltzer water with a splash of soda and that does the drink. It's a great combo and way better than drinking straight soda.

I've heard a lot of people say they detect a salty taste. I never have noticed that. According to the label, there is no sodium in it, so it must be a perception.

Sounds like a lot of work to me. Note: I'm drinking less
"soda"
now, and more fruit juice, V-8 and tea.

I rarely drink juice because it's like dumping sugar into your bloodstream, spiking your blood sugar.
It's not hard work at all to mix a splash of soda in with seltzer. I drink 4-5 litres of seltzer a day anyway, so I have plenty. Just pour whatever flavour you'd like into a glass of ice and at the very end, a small amount of soda, any flavour. I've tried Sprite, Dr. Pepper, grape soda. I end up drinking 90% seltzer give or take and just a wee bit of soda for a richer flavour. Most of the time I just drink plain seltzer, but once in a while if I want something sweet at night, a splash of soda into a large glass of seltzer does the trick without all the sugar or calories. I'm not about to drink a whole can or bottle of cola or whatever.
Easy, peasy!
