WOW. I haven't been around in the new year with projects and boring busy stuff only to return to discover this.
Oh well. I'm off to
Mexico
this weekend for a couple of weeks and was looking forward to sharing my experiences with the local cuisine. Cannot wait to try authentic pozole, birria, gorditas, tortas, mole, tamales, guisados, kekas, tacos de canasta, huaraches, sopes, cochinita pibil, pambazos, pescaditos, tlacoyos, mezcal, tequila, pulque
Anyway, it's been fun and educational and I've picked up a lot of tips from you guys.
Wish everyone the very best
and will leave you all with my very subjective Food and Drink Board Awards.

I'd like to thank the academy for this award, and I must say that I share this honor with ALL my fellow F&Ders, without whose generousity of spirit and always readily available help none of this could've been possible.
Thank you.

Aww, thanks roto. I'm humbled you think I know my way around the kitchen. Believe me, it's a lot of trial and error and I'm still learning new things - a lot of which I've learned here, from all the people on that list.
I'm really gonna miss this place. It was such a great place for discussions, ideas, friendly banter, and y'all are the nicest group of people I've come across on any message board.

Thank you for the kind nod, Rotomato.
And, thank you to so many posters whose tips, recipes, suggestions and other board input, spurred me to think in new directions.
One of my favorite memories is of the very early days of the Food and Drink Board, when we met "Fairbairn." She was one of the strong British contingent (that I'm so sorry we lost). Fairbairn's philosophy in cooking, sewing or any pursuit, was that YOU are the
human being
, and IT (ingredients, fabric or other inanimate object), is the
thing
.
You are smarter than it is. Do not let it intimidate you!
Also
, I don't know how many of you remember Pru. She was a lovely lady, with spirit and no shortage of opinions. She passes away several years ago. I think Pru should be named the
Guardian Angel
of the F&D Board. -

Shouldn't we also give a salute
to Scottywho was "Nuked" off the Board by a self-deleting troll?
We lost a LOT of wonderful conversation, tips, Delectable Recipes and at least three years of posts to some Wazzock who sat on a Corn Cob.
Thanks, IMDB, for letting THAT happen
I do hope he won't upset Henry -

Thank you rotomo, for the kind words and the award.
I will miss you and the virtual trips you have lead me on, as well as all of the other wonderful posters here.
I would give you the award of
Tour Guide/Food Critic
Safe journey on all of your future trips and have fun in Mexico. Stay safe!!

I would like to nominate 2 posters as the bravest and most stalwart in the face of adversity. They have gone forward were none of us have gone yet but before the Big C took them, they both continued to post as long as they could.

I hope we were able to give them some comfort. Most of the posters on this board are compassionate and intelligent, that's what made this board so great.

I would like to add Dopplequacker to this list. I was fortunate to meet her and actually had lunch with her a month before her death from Big C. She was very kind and gave me a small LOTR gift which I will cherish. I think she knew but was bravely putting on the face of hope for the sake of others.
There have been so many truly wonderful people on this board. It has been a rare gift to be here among you all.

Athene: I've been trying to think of Dopplequacker 's board name, I remember her posting, I was fairly new to the board and didn't have a clue that she was very ill so I was shocked when she passed. I'll second your nomination to this list.
