This happens in the period right before sleep, where the body and soul are very briefly not connected. This is about a half second window and you have to make your last concious decision at that exact moment. You are actually very lucky to have experienced it.

SOMETIMES I WANT TO GET UP FOR SOMETHING AT THE VERY SAME MOMENT MY BODY WANTS TO FALLS ASLEEP
Have had this before, I really wanted to ' wake up ' but could not move, could not tell if it was a dream or not. Happens on rare occasions to me. Sometimes it felt like i was having a hard time breathing and was trying to force myself awake to stop myself suffocating.
Have also been paralyzed in bed and got an overwhelming feeling someone was laying right next to me but i could not even turn my head to look.
Seriously lol, it scares the **** out of me every time it happens, thank god its rare. -

That's called Sleep Paralysis. It happens when your mind wakes up during REM sleep, but your body stays asleep. You can't move, because normally your muscles are paralyzed during that phase of your sleep cycle. Those aren't hallucinations you are seeing, but your dreams being played out before your eyes.
If you allow yourself to relax during sleep paralysis, instead of struggling against it, you'll be able to wake yourself up rather quickly. But it can be a very frightening experience, if you don't know what it is.

I used to suffer from it a lot in my teens for some reason, but didn't find out what it was until my early 20's when I went in for a sleep study. Up until then, no one could tell me what it was or what was causing the episodes. My sleep cycle as always been screwed up.

Insomniac, would be my mutant name. I would kill the bad guys by robbing them of their sleep or cause them to commit suicide while sleepwalking.

No, you're probably
not
going to die, at least not from sleep paralysis:

Although you feel as though you are dying sometimes, sleep paralysis is not deadly. Often times the symptoms will resolve on their own, but if they occur frequently enough to disturb your sleep/wake cycle, it may be time to get a sleep study done to find out what's causing it.
