A fascinating video. This is why I don't really follow baseball. Teams with the big money like the Yankees and Dodgers have a competitive financial advantage, and win way too much.
I'm a die hard NFL fan because it has a salary cap and revenue sharing. This puts all the teams on a more or less even footing financially.

Sports has always been about money and winning is the best way to do it. It increase ticket sales, tv ratings, merchandising, so the owners would obviously still care about winning. The difference today is that analytics has shown that high salaries doesn't always equal better teams. A roster of cheaper lesser names who excel at their position can beat a front loaded team that isn't well rounded. Finding the bargains and developing them is the smarter strategy these days.
