Should the Redskins change their name?

Should Florida State change their name as well? Personally, my own college mascot was a tribal name, and honestly, the local Native Americans didn't take it to be offensive and even embraced the mascot and name. Dan Snyder is adamant that the name is not meant to be offensive, but I wouldn't have a problem either way, whether they change the name or not. But I think the PC thing often gets out of hand. What do you think?

No. At least not until Native American tribes stop making money being sell-outs. What I mean is my wife and I saw a Native America group doing their dances and such at their place, and they said we couldn't take pictures or video because these were their sacred dances.
But, if you wanted to buy the video of their dances it was on sale at the concession stand. -

You mean they wanted a small modicum of recompense to make up for their land being stolen, their population decimated and their entire culture nearly being wiped out? The nerve.
Meanwhile we use them as mascots like wild beasts and mythical beings, and largely forget they still exist unless we go on vacation near a reservation. Us white folks have it rough.

Except no one today has anything to do with any of that. No one alive today stole land from any living indians. The indians today get money for nothing.
My neice is 1/16th indian. She gets a check for 400 bucks every February for absolutely no reason. She gets it on a monday and has spent it on shoes by Tuesday.
Waste of money.
No one denies it's terrible hwat happened centuries ago when the white man took the indians land, however it's been done, nothing is going to change it. Time to stop giving away free money for no reason when that money should be going to other things. -

What does any of this have to do with what I said? Read my post again, please. If Native Americans want to charge money for videos of their tribal dances, more power to them. I said nothing about 'giving away free money.'

Maybe I misunderstood:

.
What else did you mean by that? -

It's offensive and it should be changed, I've had this conversation too many times on this board. You wouldn't call your team the Blackskins, Brownskins, Yellowskins, etc. You wouldn't use racial slang for any other minority, But Reskins is somehow acceptable? It's crazy.
And don't even get me going on the Cleveland Indians logo. Start a team called the Blacks and use an ignorant looking caricature black face as a logo and see how far you get. Maybe 'Indians' isn't offensive, but that logo is off the charts.
Florida State has the expressed permission of the Seminole Tribe to use their name/likeness, and it isn't a slang term.
That it is even a question in today's society is insane.

Yes they should.
What I don't get is all this outcry, which is justified for the DC team to change it's name, and yet there is silence at letting the fans of the KC Chiefs do that stereotypical Indian chant and "tomahawk chop."
So why let one get away with it and the other not?
Save a few lives including your own.

So now fans should be gone after lol? For doing a tomahawk chop?
OMG.

Still have your head rammed so far up your ass that it will take at least 10 years with a full ER staff to extract it working around the clock every day of every year.
You are so dumb that I no longer have to wonder if you are in fact a very real Jim Anchower who wrote for The Onion.
Now I know that you are indeed real.
You prove it every single time you post.
All I'm doing is asking why one thing is perceived to be against Indians while the other is not.
When these boards shut down, I will miss your very friendly demeanor and compliments towards me.
I'll admit that sometimes I just don't know much - heeeeyyyyy -

I remember reading that story, but somehow you never hear about it when the libtards raise their lunatic objections. I'm 1/2 Iroquois on my dad's side and none of our family, including me, has any objections about "Redskins" being used as a nickname.
In fact, we'd appreciate it if all non-Native Americans would just butt the f-ck out! We don't need any self-righteous asshöles speaking for us.

I've always said they just change the name to the Washington Whiteys.it even has alliteration going for it. That would shut them up.

But I guess the random 504 people surveyed by phone (which means they could be anyone and simply say they're Native American for that matter) know better.

Nope.
On the contrary, every other team in the league should change their name to be more offensive.

I think that the Purdue Boilermakers name is an affront to all decent boilermakers. And Packers? Packers of every stripe should be up in arms. Not to mention Fighting Irish.
