I didn't like how the last game tried to feel and look like Eli Roth's Tomb Raider, so I'm glad this one has a lighter adventure romp tone. The open levels are better than the 2013 game too, though it's all still a bit too in love with its crafting system. Having a big Russian forest in which to hunt, explore, and stealth attack enemies reminds me of MGS3 a little.
But about the storywe learn in the first level that the plot involves a "Prophet" who was martyred in the ancient Middle East but supposedly came back from deathum, is there a reason they don't just call him by the "J" name? Was Crystal Dynamic worried they'd get religious groups picketing them a la Dan Brown if they made him Christ?
If you must blink, do it now.
