Yep, great horror film with so many creepy and disturbing scenes: the nightmare with the grinning ghoulish chauffeur, the spooky attic with the old photos of previous occupants (they all had frightened and/or perplexed looks on their faces), the old woman who was never seen but supposedly lived in the upstairs room, and the swimming pool scene where Oliver Reed's character nearly strangles his son to death.
Burnt Offerings was one of those rare horror films that scared me so much as a child that I slept with my lights on at night after seeing it. The Shining and The Sentinel were the only other films that scared me just as much.

The Sentinel still scares me. The occupants of that apartment building…

Sylvia Miles' character especially! She really creeped me out. However, I liked Charles Chazen (Burgess Meredith) and his cat. He seemed like such a gentleman.

I agree about Burgess Meredith. He's fun to watch, no matter what he played or how small his part, like the brother in the wheelchair in Burnt Offerings. For some reason, I tend to forget he is in it. I'm always pleasantly surprised when he makes his appearance.
