          I recall seeing
          Madman
on vhs for the first time with a buddy in the mid 80's and we were pissing ourselves at this scene.
He was utterly impressed with the final kill of Betsy, when Marz put her on a meat hook and he's going yes a meat hook, do it! Though she needed more of fight with Marz and the basement fire scene was a bit weak.
          The Burning
          climax was better.

I didn't like that Betsy got killed. Didn't the actress star in "Dawn of the Dead"? That was a goodie.
I remember liking "The Burning". I saw it for the first time only about a year ago. That one started off strong.
From what I can remember, "The Prowler" was the goriest of the early 80s slashers. Also "Dead and Buried". "Terror Train" and "Prom Night" would be the two weakest in the gore department. Though when the bitchy Wendy gets hers, it was quite suspenseful. TT has the wonderful sense of claustrophobia and the green lighting is irresistible.

              I don't like
              Prom Night
. I find it a waste of my time to watch. I wanted to watch TT again, but the versions on here were all in French. If the slasher has some style and sublimity in the atmosphere to go along with it, I don't mind if they aren't too graphic, ala
              The Funhouse
, but something like PN was just pretty weak all over.
              The Prowler
has a fairly low body count, yet very intense and bloody kills.
              Dead & Buried
has sadistic violence and atmosphere to boot.
              The Burning
              is very graphic too.
Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Melody Anderson is in "Dead and Buried". I loved her character in "Flash Gordon"!
"Prom Night" is a pretty weak entry, but I like it well enough. I saw it during my formative years and it was scary enough for a ten year old. Overall, the movie is pretty lame, but the disco song was cool and the chase scene with Wendy was well done. She was such a bitch to everybody. I always thought her mom was more like her maid. lol
"The Funhouse" is a great movie. Fun fun fun. Absolutely.

It is fun, it is spooky, it is scary, it is subversive, it is atmospheric and it knows that less is more and still manages to make it intense.

I typed "madman 1981 refrigerator gif" and then clicked on images.
Even out of context, it is hilarious.

I say "Reform School Girls" is my favorite comedy because of Pat Ast and because, technically, it IS a comedy. "Heat" is genius comedy as well. But the 1974 low-grade horror film, "Persecution" is without a doubt the funniest film I have ever seen. Leonard Maltin gave it *1/2 and said it was unintentionally hilarious and boy was he right about that.
The only thing I cannot in good conscience give such a low rating to a movie that brings so much unexpected joy and hilarity to me. I think "Persecution" should be mandatory viewing. It was on Showtime back in the mid 90s and that channel would show these obscure little films twice a month. Well, we got back from the bars, it was super late and my friend had taped it because he has a finely tuned sense of what is going to be entertaining. We laughed so hard, we woke up his brother. The movie has to be seen to be believed.
                      "Persecution" gets ***1/2 from me.

OK I just saw a part in a movie that was like this…..
Commando where Armold manages to push his disabled truck to a mountain edge, get in, and steer it down a mountain after bad guys on a windy road and then misses them and goes right on by!
It was funny and I don't think it was meant to be.
