Comedy crime action style American movie possibly from something like 2000-2010.
A guy (probably American, caucasian) age 30-35 who somewhat unwillingly gain custody of a teenage (15-17?) Asian girl. Cannot remember how they were actually related or why this guy seemed to be the only relative left to take care of this girl.
I vaguely remember the guy like something of a washout and loner, he has gambling and drinking problems but also some kind of police training.
Some scenes play out somewhere in a major city in Asia I think.

Thanks for the suggestion but that's not the one.
I think the Asian girl I'm looking for had red(ish) hair and seemed somewhat older than 'Mei' in Safe.
The closets one I've found so far is 'Close Call' (2004) but that's not the one either.
